Talkhouse Weekend Playlist: Kikagaku Moyo’s Lazy Sunday

A playlist of mellow jams and fuzz freakouts.

Today we’re celebrating the release of Kikagaku Moyo’s Masana Temples. We recently had Go Kurosawa, the band’s vocalist and drummer, create a Talkhouse playlist. He chose to chronicle his “lazy Sunday” mood in music. The playlist also features a couple of bands playing at this year’s Desert Daze (at which you can catch both Kikagaku Moyo and Talkhouse).

Feel good music to spend on my lazy Sunday from morning to bedtime. I added some bands that I’m excited to see live at Desert Daze as well!

Cluster & Eno — “Ho Renomo”
I love to wake up slowly while listening to this song. I often feel a very smooth shift from my dream world into the real world with this particular one.

Tsegue Maryam Guebrou — “The Homeless Wanderer”
Having some orange juice and going back into bed while listening to this Ethiopian piano music always gives me a kind of holiday feeling. It is perfect for a small nap.

Dorothy Ashby — “Wax and Wane”
With this song, I’m ready to get out of bed. I feel grooved up slowly.

Erasmo Carlos — “Grilos”
I love eating lunch while listening to this song. I imagine that I’m at a cozy place where I can see the ocean through the window… with the air conditioning on inside, of course. I eat a tasty lunch. It is all in my imagination though.

Wooden Shjips — “Already Gone”
I really love the vibe of this song. It feels spacey, but still on earth. Their songs always make me feel like I’m somewhere between space and ground. They will play at Desert Daze 2018 and I’m so excited to hear them play this live.

Wand — “Blue Cloud”
We toured together with Wand this summer on the West Coast. It was a short time—only for a week or so—however, it was so much fun to tour with them. They are lovely people making good music. Most importantly, they are GOOD live. This song especially has been stuck in my head… it truly has beautiful transitions. Whenever I listen to it, I feel so nostalgic. It makes me want to see their live show all over again. They will also be playing at Desert Daze 2018 and once again, I can’t wait!

White Heaven — “Out of My Window”
After listening to some mellow songs on my lazy Sunday, I will start to miss listening to some fuzz freakout. I need my electric brain therapy provided by Michio Kurihara’s fuzz guitar explosion. Give me more fuzz!

Lonnie Liston Smith — “Summer Nights”
It’s time for chilling out now. This one is perfect for being easy and laying down on a couch or bed. It is a song to listen to before nighttime, a song to miss summertime at home with.

Hallelujas — “The Next Verse”
Feeling dreamy before midnight. Smiling and imagining that something nice will happen to my life.

Joe McPhee — “Cosmic Love Organ Alone”
It’s time to go to bed now. As healing as this song is, the wonderfully warm organ sound will also take you somewhere very comfortable. Night night xx
