Shamir-oscopes: July 2017

Our resident astrologer reveals your cosmic theme song, mantra, and fortune for the month.

Leveled Libra

July theme song: “Bon Appétit,” Katy Perry

July mantra: “Serve yourself.”

Forget about balanced scales dominating this month, because it is all about you in July. Cancer, the emotional water sign shaking all of the other signs up, wants to get you caught up in the flow, too. You will feel that, but you won’t dive in, because you are tipping the scale on your side. July is your all-you-can-eat buffet, and you will serve yourself well, with something from every section.

Your career and work will have the same demanding energy surge from Sir Sun and my man Mr. Mars. Sir Sun will make sure you shine as bright as he does in the middle of the day—you’ll earn respect at work so they can’t hate on you. Mr. Mars will help you lay down demands without anyone’s opinion. You’ll get it done, and they’ll roll with you because it will be on point. Hold your composure around the ninth of the month, when suddenly sensitive Sister Moon tests your strength. Her fullness makes everyone crazy, but you got this, leveled Libra. Do you!

Shifting Scorpio

July theme song: “Look Up,” Daley

July mantra: “Look up.”

Shifting Scorpio can get caught up in a frantic flood in July if you don’t keep your head up high to the sky. There will be water on top of water, since Scorpio and Cancer are both water signs: I’m talking emotions all over the place—if you allow that. You can always choose to utilize your mantra: If that head is up, you won’t drown.

Your career will have you traveling and networking. You’ll also learn new ways of being spiritual or what spirituality means for you. All of this is possible due to marvelous Mercury, the planet of communication, in your tenth house of career, and the aggressive sun and Mars in your ninth house of higher learning with travel. You might find out that your lover has some freaky-deaky secrets that you didn’t know about before, thanks to Venus in your 8th house of mysterious secrets and sex. Let’s face the fact that shifting Scorpio have their own secrets—y’all are the freakiest of all the signs.

You have too many planets fighting each other in your house of health, so awareness there is critical. Don’t ignore anything about your health, and don’t pretend to feel good when you don’t. Look closely, and look up!

Savory Sagittarius

July theme song: “Sweetest Devotion,” Adele

July Mantra: “Be devoted.”

Venus and Jupiter got a thang going on in your love house, which may play out as: couples taking a much-needed vacation trip for some time alone, or if you are single and traveling, you just might bump into Mr./Mrs. Rght.

Devote yourself to your health, my super, savory Sagittarius. You got some planets beefing with each other in that house. The planets will become homies again as you get closer to the third week of July.

Your money will be looking good in July from the splendid, shine-on, super sun joining “I’m going to make it happen” Mars and private Pluto to make it rain. Savory Sagittarius should focus on figuring out what kind of move you should make in business—but don’t make a move yet; just keep peeping things out. Devote yourself to the plan, then execute it during the harvest time in October, when the energy is paramount to collecting the fruits of all labor.

In the meantime: Life is good for you, my savory ones—enjoy all the jewels that come with this month.

Shamir is Shamir and remains Shamir through and through, no matter what the universe puts him through. You may know the singularly named artist (think—Madonna or Cher) from his 2015 debut hit record Rachet, beloved by NPR listeners and club kids alike. After quickly rising to underground fame with his Northtown EP in 2014, the DIY pop star made a sonic splash with Rachet’s lead single “On The Regular,” a poppy banger that had extensive commercial usage. But how to follow all that up? Shamir, who came from the dusty dunes of Las Vegas, to Brooklyn’s Silent Barn, to the Philly indie scene (and all over the world in between), wanted to go back to what had inspired him from the beginning. Outsider music, country & punk. Raw and vulnerable tunes, stripped down to their emotional core. 2017’s Revelations explored a new avenue of guitar driven hooky indie rock and was widely critically praised in the US and overseas.

Shamir’s most recent releases, the brilliant Room 7” on Father/Daughter, and his self-released limited edition album, Resolution, are pinnacles in the catalog of the increasingly fascinating artist’s career. Room and its b-side Caballero celebrate Shamir’s love of country music, while Resolution is a deeply introspective look into the fabric of society and the artists’ own mind.  With these two releases he has refined his craft exponentially and done so in less than six months from the release of Revelations.
