Carter Smith

Carter Smith is a writer, director and photographer whose new film, Swallowed, is out now on digital and demand. Smith’s first short film, Bugcrush won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival and led Steven Spielberg to hire Smith to direct The Ruins (2008) for Dreamworks, which was released in 2008 and championed by Stephen King as one of his favorites of the year. Smith’s second feature, Jamie Marks Is Dead, premiered in dramatic competition at Sundance in 2014 and went on to play at festivals such as Sitges, Outfest and Deauville. He recently directed the queer slasher Midnight Kiss for Blumhouse and Hulu, and just wrapped production on the coming-of-age-hostage-road-trip-thriller The Passenger for Blumhouse and Epix.
