Role Models: How Janka Nabay Took My Snark Away
A fixture in New York’s experimental and indie scenes, Boshra AlSaadi has performed internationally with acts like TEEN and Janka Nabay & the Bubu Gang, blending visual art, anti-folk, and diasporic storytelling into her music. Born in Damascus and raised in Pennsylvania, she came up through NYC’s East Village anti-folk scene while at Cooper Union, co-founded Looker (Serious Business Records), toured globally, and performed at Bonnaroo and the Kennedy Center.
After being diagnosed with muscular dystrophy in her 30s, AlSaadi turned inward, transforming her experiences into deeply personal songwriting and production. She has collaborated with NYC artists including Jennifer Vanilla and Jason McMahon, and produced records for AJ Lambert. Now based in Los Angeles, she brings her full creative force, musician, songwriter, producer, visual artist, into SAADI.
SAADI’s Birds of Paradise is out now on Switch Hit Records.
