Shamir-oscopes: July 2017

Our resident astrologer reveals your cosmic theme song, mantra, and fortune for the month.

Ambitious Aries

July theme song: “Work It Out,” Beyoncé

July mantra: “Work it out.”

My ambitious Aries has the go-getting attitude to make things happen. This will calm down in July as the emotional water sign of Cancer meets your flames. Don’t get me wrong: You are still a fireball, but being patient will yield a greater return on everything. Your planetary ruler, magnificent Mars, is fighting with too many other planets this month, so slow down and take your time with your all-around decisions.

July is a big holiday month, which tends to bring family together for celebration—so sometimes arguments come up. We all know that we have to use the barometer with family and just bite our lip because we care about them, even if we want to go HAM on them. Keep a low profile, my ambitious Aries, with the help of your mantra for this month.

Business and work will be very stressful until you realize that you can’t do it all alone. To be productive, you will have to network and partner up this month.

I don’t like to be the bearer of bad news, but your awareness of the stressful month can lessen the shock value. I will never leave you without some sugar and spice somewhere in your forecast—for you, it’s in your love life. Jupiter and Venus will help you and your boo thang steam up some sheets, couches, countertops, or car seats! This will be the best place to help you balance out the strenuous mood of jumbled July.

Tenacious Taurus

July theme song: “Lay Low,” Snoop Dogg

July mantra: “Lay low.”

I have to give it to you straight, my tenacious Taurus: In July, you should just lay low. The beginning of the month starts off with emotions on tilt for couples, due to the emotional home sign of Cancer’s impact on almost all of the signs this month. You may have arguments about not spending enough time with your other half. Or, your partner might get mad at you for not walking and cleaning up after the dog like you should—things along those lines. Please be careful with your responses, because the atmosphere is ripe for you to set if off! You don’t want that, so just lay low, my fabulous friends.

High emotions will be with you for most of the month. Be really extra-careful until June 12, around the time sister moon becomes full. Lady Venus will be part of this emotional rollercoaster in areas relating to your finances—she has some confusing aspects that will cause money to come in, then go back out, just to come in again to stay.

The end of the month brings in much awaited heavenly harmonious energy for you to peek out from your laying-low spot. Look both ways as if you are crossing the street, then merge out to be you again. Tenacious Taurus, July is not out of your control. If you heed the warning, you can reap the benefits.

Galactic Gemini

July theme song: “Let’s Get It Started,” The Black Eyed Peas

July mantra: “Get it started.”

I don’t know about you, but I know what my galactic Geminis came to do—make that money. The month of July got some sexy potential for making some serious money with a lot of flirtatious flattering planets in your money house. All you have to do is get it started. Your career can take off, no matter what type of work you do, thanks to Jupiter, the expansive planet in your house of career. The work that’s done through art and passion are especially favored by Jupiter, too.

Galactic Gemini has Venus and Jupiter in your house of love, so if you don’t have a boo yet, then you can get started on finding you one. The potential is ripe for you to finally hook up with that perfect beau/wifey.

Look out for your health, my gorgeous ones, because Mars is in your house of health. If given the chance, he will come for blood!! Go the preventative route and get your diet on fleek—add minerals to your juice or water daily and consume a food-grade vitamin. The month of July will treat my galactic Geminis well—just as I would.

Shamir is Shamir and remains Shamir through and through, no matter what the universe puts him through. You may know the singularly named artist (think—Madonna or Cher) from his 2015 debut hit record Rachet, beloved by NPR listeners and club kids alike. After quickly rising to underground fame with his Northtown EP in 2014, the DIY pop star made a sonic splash with Rachet’s lead single “On The Regular,” a poppy banger that had extensive commercial usage. But how to follow all that up? Shamir, who came from the dusty dunes of Las Vegas, to Brooklyn’s Silent Barn, to the Philly indie scene (and all over the world in between), wanted to go back to what had inspired him from the beginning. Outsider music, country & punk. Raw and vulnerable tunes, stripped down to their emotional core. 2017’s Revelations explored a new avenue of guitar driven hooky indie rock and was widely critically praised in the US and overseas.

Shamir’s most recent releases, the brilliant Room 7” on Father/Daughter, and his self-released limited edition album, Resolution, are pinnacles in the catalog of the increasingly fascinating artist’s career. Room and its b-side Caballero celebrate Shamir’s love of country music, while Resolution is a deeply introspective look into the fabric of society and the artists’ own mind.  With these two releases he has refined his craft exponentially and done so in less than six months from the release of Revelations.
